We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant from The European Association for the Digital Humanities (EADH). The EADH is an organisation which represents and actively supports Digital Humanities projects such as Letters of 1916.
With the grant received from the EADH, the Letters 1916 team will organise a community engagement event in Birmingham. The hands-on event will reach out to the Irish community of Birmingham and the surrounding area, to encourage people to get involved in the project by transcribing and contributing their letters.
A vital part of Irish history is the story of the people who went overseas for adventure or a better life, for economic or political reasons, and we want to ensure that the story of Irish emigrants is included in this project. With a large population of Irish or people of Irish descent, who knows how many letters could be uncovered in Birmingham and how many forgotten stories will once again be brought to light.

The EADH brings together and represents the Digital Humanities in Europe across the entire spectrum of disciplines that research, develop, and apply digital humanities methods and technology. These include art history, cultural studies, history, image processing, language and literature studies, manuscripts studies, and musicology, amongst others. The EADH also supports the formation of DH interest groups in Europe that are defined by region, language, methodological focus or other criteria.
