Ireland’s first crowd-sourced humanities project Letters 1916-1923 has been creating a large scale digital collection of early-twentieth-century letters since its first launch in 2013. The Letters 1916-1923 online archive is continuously updated and expanded by the public for the public. People can get involved by uploading any letters written between 1 Nov 1915 and 31 Dec 1923, or by transcribing letters which have already been contributed to the archive.
What’s Involved
We are looking for volunteers to be a part of the research process by helping to transcribe and review letters written between 1916 and 1923 – a key period in Irish history. Transcribers pick topics they are interested in (the Easter Rising, the Great War, love letters, politics, etc.). This work is carried out online, so the volunteer(s) can work from home and to their own schedule.
What’s required for this position
Knowledge of computers and an ability to read handwritten letters are essential.
