The Letters of 1916 is delighted to announce its move from Trinity College Dublin to the National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUIM). The Letters of 1916 project will enter its next phase at An Foras Feasa, The Institute for Research in Irish Historical and Cultural Traditions.
To mark the occasion, we welcome you to join us for the Kildare launch of the project on 8 May 2014 at NUIM, from 5-8 (Iontas Building, North Campus). Join us for talks, to learn about the transcription of letters, the digitization process, and to meet the team behind the project. Bring letters you might have at home within our collection period, come and transcribe some of the hundreds of letters in the database, or simply join us for the reception.
The event will feature talks by Professor Susan Schreibman, the Project Director, Robert Doyle, Historian and Writer who discovered a cache of letters from Eamonn O’Modhráin in his in-laws attic, Dr Brian Hughes, the Letters of 1916 Associate Editor and expert on Michael Mallin, and Lar Joye, Curator of Irish Military History at the National Museum of Ireland.
We are equally delighted to announce that the Letters of 1916 will be a demonstrator project for the National Digital Repository (DRI). Over the next year we will be creating a fully-searchable online archive of images and transcriptions of letters, augmented by a variety of methods (such as sentiment analysis and topic modelling), as well as visualisations allowing users to engage with the corpus in new and innovative ways.
