Letters of 1916 SFI Community Engagement event in Sligo | 13 September 2016

On Tuesday 13th September, the Letters of 1916 project will held one of its SFI funded Community Engagement events at Hawk’s Well Theatre in Sligo.

This event is an opportunity for the Letters of 1916 to conduct a collection event in Sligo to digitise any letters that the public will bring along. We are interested in letters written between 1 November 1915 and 31 October 1916, and any accompanying photographs of the correspondents. In addition, we will be providing advice on the storage and care of your century-old documents.
Between 7-8pm there will be talks by the Letters of 1916 team and a guest speaker (name TBC) about the letters from County Sligo and their context giving a new insight into everyday life in the area 100 years ago. We will also read excerpts from letters and engage in a conversation with the public. This will continue at the reception from 8pm.

Free event. Drop in any time from 6pm-9pm.

The outreach event was made possible through a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) grant. This funding allows the Letters of 1916 project to extend its outreach with five Community Engagement Events in 2016 (Donegal, Kerry, Sligo, Clare & Louth).
