Join members of the Letters of 1916 project team and Maynooth University librarians for a “Write Women Back Into History” Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon on Friday 6 March 2015 from 9.30 – 13.30 in Maynooth University Library.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is “Make It Happen” and Digital Humanities projects are all about making things happen. We are inviting people to come along and learn how to make changes that matter to Wikipedia pages. Our aim is to improve existing pages and create new ones that will truly reflect women’s roles in Irish history.
As part of Maynooth Library’s 2015 Equality Celebrations, we will be holding a Wikipedia edit-a-thon in the Library Lobby. An edit-a-thon is a meeting where people edit Wikipedia together to add or improve existing entries. The “Write Women Back Into History” edit-a-thon initiative was started specifically to address the gender bias that exists on Wikipedia.
Friday’s edit-a-thon aims to celebrate the role of Irish women in the Easter Rising 1916 by updating or creating their Wikipedia entries. Come by to see how you can get involved from adding links or citations, uploading photographs or creating new Wikipedia entries.
Bring a laptop and we can help you to get started!
