Professor Susan Schreibman from the Letters of 1916 project spoke about digital preservation and knowledge loss in the digital age on The Right Hook on Newstalk on Thursday 19 February 2015.
Following a recent statement from Google’s vice-president Vint Cerf warning that all digitally stored information could be wiped out by tech upgrades in the future, George Hook wonders how much we’ve to worry about.
In the course of the interview, Professor Schreibman discusses important points about digital preservation and particular concerns about preserving “born digital” content. She also mentions The LOCKSS Program, based at Stanford University Libraries which provides libraries and publishers with open source digital preservation tools to preserve and provide access to persistent and authoritative digital content.
